First opened as Traders Hotel, Yangon in November 1996, the hotel was rebranded to operate as Sule Shangri-La, Yangon in 2014, following an extensive renovation that took three years to complete.
The 474-room hotel, which is positioned on Sule Pagoda Road near the landmark namesake pagoda that is over 2,000 years old, has been a major fixture in the city’s central business district since it opened. Nearly two decades on, the hotel continues to be Yangon’s most popular gathering and networking spot for business people and hotel guests.
Yangon, the economic capital of and gateway to Myanmar, is a cool and green city with lush tropical trees, shady parks and beautiful lakes – making the hotel an ideal base for both business and leisure travellers. Room Accommodation

Singapore-based architectural company RSP Architects, Planners & Engineers Pte., Ltd. designed the hotel’s interiors, including its 474 rooms and suites.
While the décor references the past, guestroom amenities are thoroughly modern. The hotel’s guestrooms present large picture windows that frame the city, river or the Shwedagon Pagoda. Flat-screen televisions, complimentary Wi-Fi access, 24-hour room service, fine linens and marble bathrooms complete the guest experience. Vibrant pictures of local life grace the walls of each room to balance the modern touches.
On the top floor of the hotel are three refashioned suites bordered by views of Yangon city or Yangon River. Incorporating artefacts to display Myanmar’s much-admired handicraft, they are swathed in plush fabrics and trimmed with dark wood. The suites, including the city’s largest presidential suite, measure between 66 and 189 square metres and are comfortably designed for relaxing and working in separate areas. Spacious bathrooms are fitted with a bathtub, rainforest shower and quality amenities.
Travellers in search of an exclusive retreat will enjoy the Horizon Club Lounge. The executive lounge occupying 490 square metres offers an unobstructed view of Shwedagon Pagoda from its vantage point on the 21st floor. The lounge also has two private meeting rooms.

The hotel’s meeting spaces – regular hosts of delegations and dignitaries – span three levels and were refurbished in a modern palette with gold accents.

Conveniently located in the commercial centre, Sule Shangri-La, Yangon offers well-equipped facilities ideal for conventions, seminars, corporate meetings, banquets and other events. For lavish celebrations or large conferences, The Myanmar Ballroom is one of the biggest function spaces in the city. Its lacquer-panelled doors open to an elegantly decorated room capable of hosting up to 750 people.
Eight additional function rooms suit various events ranging from an intimate group of eight people to a big group of 250 people. All function rooms feature state-of-the-art audio--visual equipment, including visual equipment, including complimentary wired or wireless Internet access, a projector screen and optional teleconferencing equipment.
